💡 Partial oxyfuel – Separate calcination of raw meal to concentrate CO₂ in the exhaust gas The capture of CO₂ and its subsequent use and storage are key elements of the cement industry's decarbonisation strategy. The separation of CO₂ from waste gas is an energy-intensive and complex process. This process can be made simpler and more efficient by achieving the highest possible CO₂ concentration in the flue gas. If the calcination of the raw meal is separated from the actual clinker burning process, this considerably facilitates the concentration of CO₂ in the flue gas and reduces the "contamination" of the CO₂ with (false) air. VDZ has developed a new technology for the separate calcination of raw meal in a flash calciner to increase the CO₂ concentration in the exhaust gas. Die Abscheidung von CO₂ aus dem Abgas ist ein energieintensiver und aufwändiger Prozess. Durch eine möglichst hohe CO₂-Konzentration im Abgas kann dieser Prozess einfacher und effizienter gestaltet werden. Wird die Calcinierung des Rohmehls vom eigentlichen Klinkerbrennprozess getrennt, erleichtert dies die Aufkonzentration von CO₂ im Abgas erheblich und reduziert die „Verunreinigung“ des CO₂ mit (Falsch)-Luft. Der VDZ hat eine neue Technologie zur separaten Calcinierung von Rohmehl in einem Flash-Calcinator entwickelt, um die CO₂-Konzentration im Abgas zu erhöhen. #VDZResearch Großtechnische Herstellung unseres nachhaltigen R-Zements   In unserem Forschungsprojekt R-ZiEMENT untersuchen wir den Einsatz ziegelhaltiger Recyclingbaustoffe als Bestandteil ressourcen- und CO₂-effizienter Zemente.   Nach den erfolgreichen Laborversuchen wurde in der vergangenen Woche ein großtechnischer Betriebsversuch bei unserem Projektpartner Spenner Zement GmbH & Co. KG in Erwitte durchgeführt. Dabei wurde ein #Zement durch gemeinsames Mahlen von Klinker, Sulfatträger und ziegelhaltigem Recyclingbrechsand hergestellt. Den recycelten Brechsand stellte unser Projektpartner Scherer & Kohl GmbH bereit. Der R-Zement enthält rd. 30 M.-% ziegelhaltigen #Recyclingbaustoff und trägt gleichermaßen zu #Klimaschutz und #Kreislaufwirtschaft bei.   Sehen Sie in unserem Video, wie unser R-Zement hergestellt wurde.   Mit der erfolgreichen Durchführung des großtechnischen Betriebsversuchs hat unser Verbundprojekt ein zentrales Forschungsziel erreicht. Im nächsten Schritt wird der R-Zement im #Beton angewendet. Neben der labortechnischen Untersuchung zulassungsrelevanter Dauerhaftigkeitseigenschaften im VDZ wird der R-Zement in der Produktion von Transportbeton sowie bei der Fertigung von Betonrohren getestet. The EU Innovation Fund will support Heidelberg Materials with €191 million to develop a unique CCS value chain at the German Geseke cement plant. The funding complements substantial investments by the company. Following the successful conclusion of the Grant Agreement, the project was officially launched on 1 January 2024. Geseke is set to become the first German cement plant that will produce carbon captured net-zero cement and clinker.
